To put this in perspective, many gamers thought that Final Fantasy was dead when it was finally released on a non- Nintendo console back in 1997, as the series had been Nintendo-exclusive since Final Fantasy II. The announcement that Final Fantasy XIII was going to be a multiplatform release for the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3.Hell, the 3DS Fire Emblem games in general - or, at least the ones that aren't remakes - have ruined the entire series forever. And the DLC for powerlevelling, cashgrabbing and weapon-collecting in the 3DS games. So did the dreaded *shudder* map-grinding in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. The completely optional Casual Mode that has no effect on the games at all if you don't select it? Ruined FE forever.

Not to mention that when Nintendo finally decided to start releasing them outside of Japan, they immediately started to suck because now people besides importers were playing them. The classes and characters in every subsequent game are an insult to the ones in the past. Reasons range from her being too girly and Animesque (despite SEGA being a Japanese company) to fears of a Newbie Boom due to the Vocaloid fandom's support in getting her in to just a general dislike of anything not directly under SEGA ownership being playable.

Sonic the Hedgehog has changed its identity back and forth so much over the years with many distinct eras that all have their fans that it is pretty much impossible for there to be something in the series that doesn't ruin it for a portion of the fanbase.
